| What is CODEC?
The word CODEC can be interpreted as a compound word containing the words compressor/decompressor or coder/decoder. Coder (Compression) converts analog signals of audio/video files to digital files. Decoder (Decompression) converts digital signals back to audio/video files. Therefore, codec is software which both compresses and decompresses various documents and audio/video files.
Since Windows installs a variety of commonly used CODECs into your system, when you install Windows onto your computer, you don't have to install CODECs separately. However, there are some widely used CODECs that Windows does not automatically install such as Indeo, DivX, MPEG, and so on.
CODECs are generally incompatible with different CODECs. That is why a specific CODEC used to compress audio/video files must be installed to decode those files as well.
WinCAM Video Codec
WinCAM Video Codec is a lossless video codec with high resolution like computer screen, optimized for movie files containing fewer amount of movement. As stated above, the two most important elements of CODEC are video quality and file size (compression rate). With WinCAM Video Codec, you not only achieve the smallest AVI file size, but also preserve 100% of its Video quality.
